The French bread is a bread of white flour with a crispy top. The inside is soft with bubbles and the shape is like the torpedo or baguette pattern, which is usual in France. The fresh French bread is used for breakfast, lunch, dinner or in late night supper. French bread should be used the same day it is purchased and should be wrapped in plastic for next time use otherwise it looses the softness for which it is loved.

It has a special taste and is therefore suits people with a different taste or you can acquire the taste over some time. The French bread is prepared in homes easily. There are several preparations of the French bread that you can make but the simple type is ideal for you.

Prepare the dough with white wheat flour. Use your hands to aerate the dough, which takes some time and you get the baker-quality dough and produce a French bread with crispy crust and soft texture. If you have a mixture machine in your kitchen, you can take the help of it to get the uniformity of the dough but the work of the hands would be enough for the home dining purpose.

Make small rolls to taste the texture and bake a few to find the effect. After being satisfied with the material, you can  give a shape like the usual torpedo and bake it  at 400 degree  F  for the initial  5 minutes and sprinkle water on the bread to put it back to baking at 350 degrees F to remain there for another 25-30 minutes for getting it fully baked. Your need of the ingredients will be: tepid water, 2 teaspoonfuls dry yeast, 2 teaspoonfuls of sugar, 2 teaspoonfuls of salt, 5-6 cups of white wheat flour, white of 1 egg and some poppy seeds.

It only takes your interest to cook a bread of this quality and if you can comply with the following tips, you come as a winner with a good quality French bread made at your kitchen. At the beginning of the preparation, mix water, yeast, sugar and salt in a container and stir it thoroughly so that solid particles are dissolved properly. Add flour in small quantity and continue to do so for the entire flour to make dough. Bring the dough on a flat board to knead it for about 10 minutes to make it soft and properly aerated.

Transfer the dough to a container which is pre greased and move the dough so that the outer skin of the dough is greased properly. Let the material stay in the kitchen for about an hour properly covered by a towel and preferably in a warm place so that the dough grows in size. When you find the material soft and swollen, give it a further kneading of another 5 minutes to get a quality texture of the loaf. Make two separate portions of the material and give each part the shape of torpedo.

Place the two materials in separate baking sheets properly greased and make ¾ inch slits in the top of the materials with a knife. Cover the materials of torpedo shape with a kitchen cloth and leave them for another hour to increase in size. When you find them double in size put them in the preheated oven at 400 degree F and follow the simple procedure discussed earlier to make the French bread.
